In the Spring and Fall of each year, the Carolinas Miata Club attends the Food Lion AutoFair at Charlotte Motor Speedway. For those who don’t know what the AutoFair is, here’s an excerpt from Charlotte Motor Speedway’s website:
| "The annual four-day show attracts thousands of automobiles and features collector car auctions, a flea market with more than 10,000 vendor spaces, a massive manufacturer midway, a car corral with more than 1,500 cars for sale, special exhibits, a kids’ zone, crazy fair foods and much more!” |
We are one of the 50+ clubs that attend each show. In exchange for displaying our cars all day Saturday and Sunday, the Speedway gives us free admission and a great parking space. We get 20 car passes and 40 people passes for each day.
The club will meet each morning at the Jack-in-the-Box on Bruton Smith Blvd. at 6:15 a.m. Precisely at 6:45 a.m. (new time, folks!), we head for the track and should be in place by 7:30. Here's a map to Jack in the Box. We go this early because the front gate closes after a certain time in the morning; and it becomes a long, convoluted ordeal to get to our spot. If we get the same spot as the last few years we will be at the north end of the track behind pit wall.
Car and people passes will be issued at Jack-in-the-Box each morning before departure to the track. No passes will be mailed. We usually have a few extra people passes, which can be used for free “walk-in” admission for members not displaying their car. Contact me close to the event date for information.
You can bring -- and are encouraged to bring -- chairs, coolers, sunscreen, hats, and food. The only money you need is for food or stuff that you buy. CMC owns two 10’ x 10’ canopies, so we will have shade. “For Sale” signs are not allowed on cars displayed in the club area. Part of the AutoFair is a car corral, so if you want to sell your car, you can do it there.
There are no requirements except your car has to be a Miata or Miata-powered. Prospective members are allowed to participate once before joining the club. Your car can be showroom stock or wildly modified; it doesn’t matter to us. Don't feel intimidated if you think your Miata isn't "show worthy"...most members have completely stock Miatas and are still proud to bring them out. The only requirement is that your car MUST BE CLEAN. The AutoFair attracts over 100,000 people, so we want to show nice Miatas for the crowd.
If you’ve signed up to attend and find that you won’t be able to make it, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can make the slot available to other members who would like to attend. “No-shows” will not be tolerated. It’s a disservice to the club and to other members who miss out. Please be considerate of others. If the available slots fill up, we’ll add a standby list.
